Johanne Maheux's figurative works are inspired by current social realities; the world, people, urban life, anonymity, loneliness, man's relationship with time, communications and his environment. In short, she depicts all that is and affects us as a human being and as a society. Her goal is simply to paint her perception. It is then up to the viewer to draw his/her own interpretation.
Influenced by Edward Hopper, Jean-Paul Lemieux, Louis Muhlstock ... and the artistic movement of social realism, to portray everyday life that is both ordinary and unique, this is what drives the artist. Her paintings, which the color blue dominates are often perceived as melancholic and thought-provoking.
Née en 1964 en Beauce, où elle vit toujours, Johanne Maheux nourrit depuis l’enfance une passion profonde pour l’art. Avant de s’y consacrer pleinement en 2019, elle a travaillé comme intervenante sociale dans le secteur de la santé, une expérience humaine qui continue d’influencer sa démarche. Formée en arts à l’Université de Chicoutimi et Rimouski, elle maintient une pratique soutenue depuis plus de 30 ans.
Depuis ses débuts en 1987, elle a présenté de nombreuses expositions individuelles et participé à plusieurs événements collectifs à travers le Québec. Son travail a été reconnu par divers prix.
Engagée dans sa communauté, elle cofonde en 2021 l’Atelier Joual Vert, un espace d’art accessible à tous, et anime des ateliers de création et de médiation culturelle tout en poursuivant sa pratique personnelle.
